Roy chases second Canadian National Champion title

2008 PBR Canadian National Champion Aaron RoyCALGARY, Alberta (August 10, 2010) - Only six stops remain in the season and 2008 PBR Canadian National Champion Aaron Roy (Yellow Grass, SK) finds himself in familiar territory chasing his second National Championship title. After competing in three PBR Canada Touring Pro (CTP) events this past weekend, Roy jumped from sixth to third in the National Standings and now has 3941 points; 1096 points behind current leader Tyler Thomson (Black Diamond, AB) and 352 points behind Zane Lambert (Westbourne, MB).

The key to Roy’s leap was posting an impressive 91 point ride on Sissons Bucking Bulls’ Bag of Hammers in the Championship Round at the 7th Annual Brad Phipps Memorial in Lashburn, SK on August 6. This ride, paired with an 86 point ride in Round One, earned Roy the event title, $3,618.45 and 552 points.

“I had a great weekend in front of my hometown province,” commented Roy. “I stayed on my bulls which is all you need to do.”

Roy pocketed over $188,000 in 2009, surpassing Rob Bell (Houston, BC) as the highest earning PBR Canadian rider; a record Bell held since 2003. This season Roy has earned $101,678.78
to date and he attributes his continued success to focusing on having fun.

“I’m relaxed,” continued Roy. “This mentality is working well for me."

The race to crown the Canadian National Champion continues on Wednesday, August 18 when the CTP travels to Coronation, AB for the Royal Rumbull at the Coronation Memorial Arena beginning at 7:00 PM.  Advance tickets begin at $15 and can be purchased at Kena Hardware or R. E. Brigley & Sons Shell.

The PBR Canadian Cup National Finals presented by Wrangler will be held on November 19-20 at the Credit Union Centre in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. Tickets begin as low as $15 and are on sale now at the Credit Union Centre Box Office, Saskatchewan Ticketmaster outlets, online at ticketmaster.ca or by telephone at (800) 970-7328. Standard ticket fees may apply. There will be bucking chutes positioned at both ends of the arena, giving fans the ultimate PBR experience. This is not a rodeo; it’s the Toughest Sport on Earth!
