Palermo takes Round One of Canadian National Finals

2010 PBR Canadian National FinalsSASKATOON, Saskatchewan (November 20, 2010) - The 2010 Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Canadian Cup National Finals presented by Wrangler kicked off Friday evening at the Credit Union Centre with the first round of competition. Robson Palermo of Rio Branco, Acre, BZ, grabbed the event lead after covering Wango Tango (Battle River Rodeo) for 88.5 points.

“I knew he was a good bull,” commented Palermo. “I knew if I stayed on, I’d end up with a good score.”

With his Round One lead, Palermo qualified for the Wrangler Challenge of Champions bonus. His rival, Rocky McDonald of Col. Juarez, Mexico, advanced to the Wrangler Challenge after capturing second atop Forget Me Not (Girletz Rodeo Stock) with an 87.5 point ride. McDonald was first out of the chutes and was unable to cover VJV Slash (Vold Rodeo), giving Palermo the opportunity to take home the bonus if he could hold on for eight against Masterfeed’s Gun Powder & Lead (Braithwaite Ranches), the 2010 Canadian Champion Bucking Bull. Palermo proved victorious with a 92.5 point ride, earning the $9,000.00 bonus.

“This is my first time in Canada,” continued Palermo. “I feel relaxed now after riding two bulls and am more confident heading into tomorrow night.”

The PBR Canadian National Finals continues Saturday at 7:30 p.m. with Round Two and the Championship Round. Tickets are available at the Credit Union Centre Box Office, Saskatchewan Ticketmaster outlets, online at ticketmaster.ca or by phone at 800.970.7328.
