Patten captures title at Winnipeg Invitational
WINNIPEG, Manitoba (January 31, 2011) - Only four riders went 2-for-2 Saturday night at the Professional Bull Riders (PBR) Canadian Cup Series, including Ty Patten of Buck Lake, AB, who won the Winnipeg Invitational and took home $7,514.00 at the MTS Centre. Patten rode Poppy Cock (Girletz Rodeo Stock) for 88.5 points in Round 1 and grabbed the lead in the Championship Round on Super Tramp (R-Saga Ranch Ltd.) with an 89 point ride, capturing his first Cup Series title.
“This win is a confidence boost for sure,” commented Patten. “The pressure is definitely off my back. Now I’ve got momentum heading into the next event.”
Finishing just short of Patten, Zac Peterson of Velva, ND,made the buzzer in Round 1 on Tveras Pet (Girletz Rodeo Stock) for 88 points and rode Diego (Girletz Rodeo Stock) in the Championship Round for 87. Third overall went to Dusty Ephrom of Arcola, SK, who covered Northern Lights (Braithwaite Ranches) for 86.5 points in Round 1, followed by an 86.5 point ride on Evil Roy Slade (Skori Bucking Bulls).
Rounding out the Winnipeg Invitational, three-time World Cup contender Tyler Thomson of Black Diamond, AB, rode Mixed Emotions (Battle River Rodeo) for 85 points in Round 1. Thomson ended the night with an 86 point ride on Jackson James (Braithwaite Ranches) in the Championship Round, to earn a fourth place finish.
