Canadian cowboys vie for $200,000 in Vegas

Last Cowboy StandingCALGARY, Alberta (April 14, 2011) - The Professional Bull Riders (PBR) is bringing the world’s best bull riders to the Mandalay Bay Events Center Saturday, April 16 and three Canadians are part of the elite field competing for $200,000 and the right to be called the “Last Cowboy Standing.” Aaron Roy of Asquith, SK; Dusty Ephrom of Arcola, SK; and Ty Pozzobon of Merritt, BC, will head to Las Vegas for the opportunity to collect the highest one-day payout of the 2011 PBR Built Ford Tough Series (BFTS) season, and the second highest in history, in the first-ever progressive elimination event.

The Top 40 riders will each ride a bull in Round 1. Riders who reach 8 seconds will advance to the next round. The elimination format continues until there is only one cowboy left. There will be a minimum of three rounds and a maximum of five. The total purse for the event is $300,000, with $200,000 being awarded to the winner.

Roy, a two-time Canadian National Champion, has represented Canada at all four PBR World Cup events and sits 18th in the world. After winning his first Canadian Cup Series in London, ON, Ephrom enters the competition as the top-ranked rider in the Canadian national standings. Pozzobon, currently competing on the BFTS, ranks 4th overall in Canada, and trails Ephrom by a mere 150.5 points.

Fans in Canada have the opportunity to view the event live on Viewers Choice Pay Per View for only $29.99. For details, visit http://pbr.com/lastcowboystanding. PBR veteran broadcaster Craig Hummer will call the play-by-play and nine-time World Champion and PBR co-founder Ty Murray will provide color commentary. Leah Garcia will do dirt-level interviews while fan favorite Justin McKee will provide special segments and features for the broadcast and work alongside in-arena announcers Brandon Bates and Clint Adkins.

The winner of “Last Cowboy Standing” will also guarantee himself a berth in the 2011 PBR Built Ford Tough World Finals on Oct. 26-30 at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas. The richest bull riding event in the world, the Finals is where the 2011 PBR World Champion will be crowned and awarded the $1 million Built Ford Tough bonus.

“Last Cowboy Standing” begins at 6 p.m. PT, and tickets are still available at the Mandalay Bay box office, online at www.Ticketmaster.com, and by telephone at (800) 745-3000.
