ARMSTRONG, B.C. – In front of a raucous Sunday night crowd in Armstrong, British Columbia, reigning PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada Champion Dakota Buttar (Eatonia, Saskatchewan), dominated, sweeping both rounds of competition en route to winning the Touring Pro Division’s Interior Provincial Exhibition and Stampede at the Armstrong Fairgrounds.

The win marked Buttar’s third of the season, the third most of any rider.

As action got underway the two-time PBR Canada Champion surged to an early event lead, winning Round 1 courtesy of his 85.5-point ride on Forrest Gump (Brock Mateka).

Buttar then readied to take on Hard Not To Get (Vold Rodeo) in the championship round. Bursting from the chutes, the reserved Saskatchewan man remained in perfect time with his powerful animal athlete opponent, matching him jump-for-jump en route to the requisite 8. Awarded an event-best 87.5 points, the score cemented the victory for Buttar.

Garnering 136 national points, Buttar vaulted from No. 14 to No. 5 in the race for the 2024 PBR Canada Championship and accompanying $100,000 bonus. He is now within 543.5 points of No. 1 Nick Tetz (Calgary, Alberta).

Should Buttar continue his upwards climb and win the 2024 title he would firmly cement his name in the PBR record books. Not only would he become the first rider in history to win the PBR Canada Championship in consecutive seasons, but he would tie Aaron Roy (Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan) for most Canadian titles won by one rider with three.

Jordan Hansen (Amisk, Alberta) parlayed a 2-for-2 showing of his own into a second-place finish, garnering 82 national points.

The Albertan bested I’m A Criminal (Shay Marks) for 79 points in the opening round, before teaming with Langham Kid (Two Bit Bucking Bulls) for an 86.5-point score in the championship round.

Chasing his first PBR Canada Championship this November, Hansen rose from No. 17 to No. 14 in the national standings.

As the final rider to go a perfect 2-for-2, Weston Davidson (Strongfield, Saskatchewan) was third.

Davidson earned 71 national points for his 84-point ride on Desperado (Vold Rodeo) and 80.5-point effort atop McGregor (Vold Rodeo). He rose from No. 4 to No. 3 in the standings, now 483.5 points behind No. 1 Tetz.

Coy Robbins (Camrose, Alberta) parlayed an 82-point ride atop Blood Creek (Outlaw Buckers Rodeo Corp.) in Round 1 into a fourth-place finish.

The 2017 PBR Canada Rookie of the Year garnered 38 national points. He cracked the Top 10 in Canada, climbing from No. 11 to No. 7, now 606 points back of the top spot.

Rounding out the Top 5 in fifth was Cauy Schmidt (Coronation, Alberta).

Schmidt bested Knee Knocker (Vold Rodeo) for 79.5 points in Round 1 to net 25 national points. The 2022 PBR Canada Rookie of the Year climbed from No. 23 to No. 19 in the standings.

In the bull pen, Jam It (Vold Rodeo) bucked a cut above the rest, earning his second Bull of the Event title in 2024. The powerful animal athlete turned heads in the championship round, marked an unrivaled 43.5 points for his 1.31 seconds of work against Brahmer Gaehring (Coutts, Alberta).

The 2024 PBR Canada season continues Thursday, September 5 in Kindersley, Saskatchewan, at the Kindersley West Central Events Center. Action for the Touring Pro Division’s Energy Dodge Dakota Buttar Invitational gets underway at 7:00 p.m. CST.
