LETHBRIDGE, Alta. –  In front of a raucous Friday night crowd inside VisitLethbridge.com Arena, two-time and reigning PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada Champion Nick Tetz (Calgary, Alberta) rode supreme, winning Round 1 of the elite Cup Series’ PBR South Country Co-op Showdown in Lethbridge, Alberta.

Not only is Tetz chasing his fifth consecutive Cup Series win in Lethbridge, having won every elite tour event in the city since 2022, but he is on the hunt for vital national points as he looks to become the first back-to-back PBR Canada Champion in history this November.

Tetz lit up the scoreboard Friday night when he delivered an unrivaled 85-point ride on Trailer Trash (Vold Rodeo). Netting 28 national points, Tetz rose from No. 14 to No. 9 in the standings, propelled within 94.5 points of No.1 Dakota Buttar (Eatonia, Saskatchewan).

Two-time PBR Canada Champion Buttar remained No. 1 in Canada, tying for fourth in Round 1 and earning 15.5 national points.

Having won the season-launch Cup Series event less than one month prior in Red Deer, Alberta, Buttar continued to ride in commanding form, outlasting Tombstone (TFB Ranch) for 83.5 points.

Holding firm to the No. 1 rank, Buttar grew his lead over No. 2 Jordan Hansen (Amisk, Alberta), who was bucked off by Sober Child (TFB Ranch) in 4.09 seconds, to 58.5 national points.

Both Tetz and Buttar are chasing a similar record this November at the PBR Canada National Finals. Should either win the 2025 PBR Canada Championship and accompanying $100,000 bonus, they would tie Aaron Roy (Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan) for most national titles won by one rider with three.

Roy, however, is seeking even rarer air, looking to earn his unprecedented fourth PBR Canada Championship. During Round 1 of competition in Lethbridge, he tied for fourth alongside Buttar, riding Teeka (Vold Rodeo/R Saga Ranch) for a matching 83.5 points.

The veteran contender earned 15.5 national points, surging from unranked to No. 17 in Canada. He is now 126 points back of No. 1 Buttar.

Returning to the top of the event leaderboard, Jake Garnder (Fort St. John, British Columbia) and Lonnie West (Cadogan, Alberta) tied for second. Each rider registered an 84-point ride, garnering 17.5 national points.

Gardner bested Run It Up (Eno Bucking Bulls/Gaume Farms) and West conquered Night Fury (Skori Bucking Bulls).

For Gardner, he climbed from No. 6 to No. 3 in the standings, now 68 points behind No. 1 Buttar, while West rose from unranked to No. 16, now trailing the top spot by 124 points.

Five additional riders will begin Round 2 of competition with points on the board. Those competitors are: Garrett Green (Meeting Creek, Alberta) and Jared Parsonage (Maple Creek, Saskatchewan) tied for sixth with 82-point rides; Coy Robbins (Camrose, Alberta) in eighth with an 80-point score; Eric O’Flynn (Quesnell, British Columbia) positioned ninth courtesy of a 78-point effort; and Francisco Costa (Humaita, Brazil) in tenth following his 77-point score.

Action for the PBR South Country Co-op Showdown will conclude with Round 2 and the championship round on Saturday, March 1. Action gets underway at 7 p.m. MST. Tickets are still available and can be purchased online at VisitLethbridgeArena.ca, or charge by phone at (403) 329-7328.
