LETHBRIDGE, Alta. – In front of a sold-out, Saturday night crowd in Lethbridge, Alberta, Nick Tetz (Calgary, Alberta) rode white hot, delivering a perfect 3-for-3 performance inside VisitLethridge.com Arena to win his fifth consecutive PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada Cup Series event in the Alberta city, victorious at the PBR South Country Co-op Showdown.
Tetz got off to a quick start as Round 1 began Friday, delivering the top score when he rode Trailer Trash (Vold Rodeo) for 85 points.
As Championship Saturday got underway, he remained atop the leaderboard after riding Sin Wagon (Vold Rodeo/Prescott) for a Round 2-best 87.5 points.
With the first pick in the championship round, two-time and reigning PBR Canada Champion Tetz selected a familiar opponent in Langham Kid (Two Bit Bucking Bulls).
In 2022, Tetz rode the powerful bovine athlete for 88 points during the National Finals en route to winning his first Canadian Championship. Last season, Tetz not only rode the bull for a monstrous 90 points to win the regular-season event in Medicine Hat, Alberta, but he also covered Langham Kid for 87.5 points to clinch his second PBR Canada Championship last November.
On Saturday night in Lethbridge, the duo again danced for a memorable score, this time teaming for 87.5 points to clinch the PBR South Country Co-op Showdown event win for Tetz.
The out also marked the retirement for both Langham Kid and the Two Bit Bucking Bulls firm.
During their tenure, Happy Camper made history for the outfit becoming the first-ever, two-time PBR Canada Bull of the Year, winning the title in 2018 and 2021. Two Bit Bucking Bulls also won the coveted title in 2020 with Catch My Drift, while Bucking Fantastic (2012) and Happy Camper (2018, 2021) were named the Bull of the National Finals.
Courtesy of the win, Tetz earned a crucial 151 national points. He vaulted from No. 14 to No. 1 in the race for the 2025 PBR Canada Championship and accompanying $100,000 bonus. He now leads No. 2 Dakota Buttar (Eatonia, Saskatchewan) by 6 points.
Should Tetz win the 2025 PBR Canada Championship not only would he tie Aaron Roy (Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan) for most national titles won by one rider with three, but he would become the first rider in history to win the honor in back-to-back seasons.
Jake Gardner (Fort St. John, British Columbia) delivered a perfect 3-for-3 performance to finish second and earn 98 national points.
After riding Run It Up (Eno Bucking Bulls/Gaume Farms) for 84 points in Round 1, he topped Broken Pearl (Kinky Buckers) for 84.5 points in Round 2, and outlasted Whiskey Moon (Skori Bucking Bulls) for 88 points in the championship round.
Gardner climbed from No. 6 to No. 3 in the standings, inching within 16 points of No. 1 Tetz.
Third was Jared Parsonage (Maple Creek, Saskatchewan).
Covering all three of his bovine athlete opponents, Parsonage rode Shoot to Thrill (Lazy P Rodeo) for 82 points in Round 1, Jokers Grin (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle) for 83.5 points in Round 2 and Grand Funk (Kinky Buckers) for 88.5 points in the championship round.
The veteran competitor netted 84 national points. Chasing his first PBR Canada Championship this November, Parsonage climbed from unranked to No. 5 in the nation. He trails No. 1 Tetz by 86 points.
As the final rider to go a perfect 3-for-3, Franciso Costa (Humaita, Guatemala) was fourth.
Following a 77-point ride on Wicked Water (Vold Rodeo) in Round 1, and 83.5-point effort atop Trailer Trash (Vold Rodeo) in Round 2, Costa delivered the high-marked ride of the Cup Series tour stop in the championship round when he rode Blue Magic (Outlaw Buckers Rodeo Corp.) for 89.5 points.
Costa collected 61.5 national points, climbing from unranked to No. 9 in Canada. He’s now 108.5 points back of the top spot.
Rounding out the Top 5 in fifth was Brock Radford (DeWinton, Alberta).
Radford netted 50.5 national points for his 85-point score on Busta Rhymes (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle/Legend Rodeo Stock) in Round 2, and 88.5-point trip on God Bless (Sterk Bucking Bulls) in the final round.
Garnering 50.5 national points, Radford rose from unranked to No. 13 in Canada.
In the bull pen, Haunted Hotel (Vold Rodeo), God Bless, Blue Magic, War Boy (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle/Legend Rodeo Stock) and Grand Funk bucked supreme, crowned the YETI “Built for the Wild” Bull of the Event, each marked 43.5 points in the championship round.
Haunted Hotel earned the points for his 3.14-second trip with Jordan Hansen (Amisk, Alberta), God Bless lit up the scoreboard when he was ridden by Radford, Blue Magic wowed the crowd when he teamed with Costa for the high-marked ride of the event, War Boy topped the charts when he tossed Buttar in 6.57 seconds, and Grand Funk earned his high marks when he was ridden by Parsonage.
Following a near two-month break, the 2025 PBR Canada Sup Series will next travel to Brandon, Manitoba, and Keystone Centre for the PBR Mazergroup Chute Out on Friday, May 23 and Saturday, May 24. Action will get underway nightly at 7 p.m. CST. Tickets are still available and be purchased at the Westoba Place at the Keystone Centre Box Office and online at Ticketmaster.ca.
