MELFORT, Sask. – At the first-ever PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada Touring Pro Division event in Melfort, Saskatchewan, Coy Robbins (Camrose, Alberta) rode supreme, going a perfect 2-for-2 to win the Ripley Rumble PBR, vaulting from No. 10 to No. 5 in the race for the 2025 Canadian Championship and accompanying $100,000 bonus.
Robbins got off to a sensational start at Ripley Ford, tying for the Round 1 win when he topped Rice Pudding (CS Bucking Bulls) for 84 points.
Poised, the 2017 PBR Canada Rookie of the Year then took on Whiskey Clouds (Skori Bucking Bulls) in the championship round. Nodding with confidence, Robbins dominated the bull for 85 points to clinch the event win.
Robbins’ golden finish earned him a crucial 57.5 national points. He surged from No. 10 to No. 5 in the national standings, inching within 303.5 points of No. 1 Jake Gardner (Fort St. John, British Columbia).
Garnder finished both fourth and fifth at the Ripley Rumble PBR courtesy of a double entry.
The British Columbia man’s fourth-place effort was headlined by an 83-point ride atop State Line (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle) in Round 1, while his fifth-place finish included an 82.5-point ride aboard Brimstone (Skori Bucking Bulls) in the opening round.
Leaving Melfort with 35 national points, Gardner grew his lead to 151 points over No. 2 Dakota Buttar (Eatonia, Saskatchewan).
Buttar also competed at the Ripley Rumble PBR but couldn’t get past That’s Joe (Rafter 8 Bulls) in Round 1, bucked off in 2.29 seconds.
Returning to the top of the event leaderboard, as the only other rider to go a perfect 2-for-2, Aaron Roy (Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan) was third.
Three-time PBR Canada Champion Roy made the requisite 8 on Cheeko (Skori Bucking Bulls) for 82 points in Round 1, before delivering the high-marked ride of the event in the championship round, besting Elk (Lazy S Bucking Bulls) for 85.5 points.
Roy netted 46 national points, rising from No. 9 to No. 7 in Canada as he chases his unprecedented fourth national title this November. He now trails No. 1 Gardner by 306.17 points.
Rounding out the Top 5 in third was Jordan Hansen (Amisk, Alberta).
Hansen began the event with a bang, tying for the Round 1 win via an 84-point score on Quiet Riot (Lazy S Bucking Bulls), but was denied the win when he was bucked off by Hammer Time (Skori Bucking Bulls) in a quick 2.35 seconds in the final round.
Earning 24.5 national points, Hansen rose from No. 4 to No. 3 in Canada, propelled within 204.5 points of the No. 1 rank in Canada.
In the bull pen, God Bless (W Sunrise), Shot Caller (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle) and Margy Kat (W Sunrise) bucked a cut above the rest, tying for the Bull of the Event honor.
All marked an event-best 43 points, God Bless posted the score in Round 1 for his 2.34 seconds of work with Austin Paley (Beverlodge, Alberta), while Shot Caller and Margy Kat were both out in the championship round, bucking off Jesse Ozirney (Grenfell, Saskatchewan) in 2.73 seconds, and Paley in 2.81 seconds, respectively.
