THIS WEEKEND’S FORMAT – The South Country Co-op Showdown will feature three rounds of bull riding and is a Tier 1 Velocity Tour Global event. Each rider will get on one bull in Round 1 on Friday and Round 2 on Saturday. Round 1 will be set by a random draw, Round 2 will be determined by draft. The 10 bull riders with the best combined scores will then advance to the championship round on Saturday, where they will attempt one final bull in an effort to be crowned the event champion. This weekend, one rider will have the chance to earn 140 national points in the main event, in addition to ride score points. Following Friday night’s Round 1, the Top 5 riders from the opening round will attempt five of the event’s top bulls. Featuring both a separate purse, and national points, $10,000 will be available, with the winner set to collect 15 national points.

5/5 BUCKING BATTLE – The opening night of competition for the PBR South Country Co-op Showdown will feature a 5/5 Bucking Battle. The special round featured at select two-time PBR Canada Cup Series events pits the Top 5 riders from the event’s opening round against the five best bucking bulls at the event, the special round will feature both a separate purse, and national points. The national points will be awarded as: 1st – 15; 2nd – 8; and 3rd – 7. The money will payout as: 1st - $5,500; 2nd - $3,000; and 3rd – $1,500. The bulls slated to buck in the 5/5 Bucking Battle in Lethbridge are:

Monster Chip (TFB Ranch)
Black Mamba (Lazy P Rodeo)
Carved In Stone (Vold Rodeo/Sure Fire Bucking Bulls)
Finger Roll (Legend Rodeo)
Night Fury (Skori Bucking Bulls)

TETZ TURNS UP THE HEAT There is arguably no rider hotter in PBR Canada competition at present than current No. 1 Nick Tetz. Chasing his record-tying third PBR Canada Championship this November, Tetz wowed at the season-launch Cup Series event in Red Deer, going a perfect 2-for-2 in front of the sold-out crowd to win the event and extend his lead atop the national standings. Tetz first struck in Round 1, converting on re-ride draw Bad Intentions for 85.5 points, punching his ticket to the championship round second on the event leaderboard. With his early pick in the championship round bull draft, Tetz elected to go head-to-head with More or Less. Nodding with confidence, Tetz erupted from the chutes, remaining in perfect time with the powerful animal athlete en route to the 8-second whistle. Tetz was awarded an event-best 87.4 points, clinching the win. The Albertan left Red Deer having earned 126 national points, growing his lead atop the standings to 196 points over new No. 2 Coy Robbins.

Tetz is now a perfect 6-for-6 on Canadian soil in 2026. Additionally, he has won four of the six rounds of action held thus far this season, and his win in Red Deer came on the spurs of his Touring Pro Division victory on New Years Eve in Oyen, Alberta. And Tetz will ride his wave of dominance into a city where he seemingly can’t be stopped. Tetz has won the last five consecutive events in Lethbridge, with no other rider having emerged victorious in Lethbridge since 2022. Apart from Tetz, no rider has won the same event more than three consecutive times. The Albertan sensation will look to continue the momentum this season when he first climbs aboard Hanna Motors Stand By You in Round 1 of action.

ROY ENTERS SEASON 20 The 2026 season marks three-time PBR Canada Champion Aaron Roy’s 20th season in the PBR, making him the most tenured rider ever to compete within the PBR Canada ranks, trailed by the now retired Zane Lambert who was active for 17 seasons. Across all of PBR, Roy is tied for second, trailing both Francisco Morales and Ednei Caminhas whose careers both spanned 22 years. During his illustrious career, Roy, who is the only Canadian to ever eclipse $1 million in career earnings has attempted 1,387 bulls across all levels of PBR competition. Historically, he has logged the fifth most outs of any rider ever in the PBR. This weekend in Lethbridge, Roy will log out 1,388 when he attempts Busta Rhymes in Round 1.

PAST LETHBRIDGE EVENT WINNERS – When the Cup Series last travelled to Lethbridge in March 2025, two-time PBR Canada Champion Nick Tetz rode white hot, delivering a perfect 3-for-3 performance to win his fifth consecutive Cup Series event in the Alberta city. Tetz got off to a quick start in Round 1, delivering the top score when he rode Trailer Trash for 85 points. As Championship Saturday got underway, he remained atop the leaderboard after riding Sin Wagon for a Round 2-best 87.5 points. With the first pick in the championship round, Tetz selected a familiar opponent in Langham Kid. In 2022, Tetz rode the powerful bovine athlete for 88 points during the National Finals en route to winning his first Canadian Championship, while in 2024 Tetz not only rode the bull for a monstrous 90 points to win the regular-season event in Medicine Hat, Alberta, but he also covered Langham Kid for 87.5 points to clinch his second PBR Canada Championship. In Lethbridge, the duo again danced for a memorable score, this time teaming for 87.5 points to clinch the PBR South Country Co-op Showdown event win for Tetz. Courtesy of the win, Tetz earned a crucial 151 national points. He vaulted from No. 14 to then No. 1 in the race for the 2025 PBR Canada Championship and accompanying $100,000 bonus. He left Lethbridge leading then No. 2 Dakota Buttar by 6 points.

FAMILIAR WATERS Round 1 of the PBR South Country Co-op Showdown will feature eight rematches. The riders facing familiar opponents are:

  • Lonnie West will look to remain perfect aboard Lost Creek. West rode the powerful animal athlete for 85.5 points last October at the Cup Series event in Medicine Hat, Alberta.
  • Nick Tetz has drawn Hanna Motors Stand By You for the third time in his career, shutout in both prior attempts. The two first danced at the May 2025 Touring Pro Division event in Brooks, Alberta, with Tetz tossed in 6.51 seconds. Their rivalry was renewed at the 2025 PBR Canada National Finals in Edmonton, Alberta, but Tetz was again bested, this time in 2.48 seconds.
  • Aaron Roy will attempt to even the score with Busta Rhymes. At the Jun 2024 Touring Pro Division event in Cluny, Alberta, the bull made quick work of the legend, launching him in 3.35 seconds.
  • Cauy Schmidt will again square off against Rorketon Ripper. A recent rivalry, Schmidt was bested by the bull at the 2026 Cup Series season-launch event in Red Deer, Alberta, upended in 4.36 seconds.
  • Cody Coverchuk will be keen to avenge a close buckoff dealt to him by Jail Break in their one showdown on record. Having last met at the June 2023 Touring Pro Division event in Humboldt, Saskatchewan, Coverchuk was bucked off in a heart-breaking 7.72 seconds.
  • Dusty Golden will renew his rivalry with Pay Day. Matched up at the 2025 PBR Canada National Finals last November, Golden did not have enough to get past the animal athlete, bested in 4.1 seconds.
  • Garrett Green will climb aboard Slingin Stones for the second time in his career. Their first showdown did not end in Green’s favor as he was bucked off in 5.54 seconds at the 2024 Cup Series event in Lethbridge, Alberta.
  • Weston Davidson has drawn the last familiar showdown. Again paired with Jojo’s Mojo, Davidson was bucked off by the bull in 2.78 seconds when they danced at the December 2023 Touring Pro Division event in Dawson Creek, British Columbia.

NEXT UP – The 2026 PBR Canada Sup Series will next travel to Brandon, Manitoba, and Assiniboine Credit Union Place for the PBR Mazergroup Chute Out on Friday, May 1 and Saturday, May 2. Action will get underway nightly at 7 p.m. CT.

PROVIDING PROTECTION – The bullfighters on hand for this weekend’s event in Lethbridge, Alberta, are Jesse Byrne, Tanner Byrne and Brett Monea.
