Coverchuk earns second July win with victory in Czar

CZAR, Alberta – In front of a sold-out crowd, Cody Coverchuk (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan) went a perfect 2-for-2 at the Czar Lake Bullarama to claim his second PBR Canada Touring Pro Division (TPD) title in the month of July.

The 23-year-old rode began his night with a Round 1 winning, 84.5-point ride aboard Night Vision (Wild Hoggs). In the short go, Coverchuk delivered another round-topping ride, lasting the full 8 aboard Wait For It (Thompson Rodeo Co.) for 86.5 points.

The win comes nearly two weeks after Coverchuk won the title at PBR Canada’s Ranchman's Renegades Charity Bullbustin'.

For the win Coverchuk earned $5,731.12, 60 points towards the world standings, where he now ranks No.54 and 350 Canadian points which move him to the No.2 spot in the nation.

Tanner Byrne (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan) was the only other rider to deliver a perfect, 2-for-2 showing at the Friday night event, finishing second overall.

In Round 1 Byrne rode Smash (Skori Bucking Bulls) for 84 points, which he followed with an 86-point effort aboard Bandera (Outlaw Buckers Rodeo Corp.) in the short go.

Byrne earned $4,141.21 and 30 world points for his finish. The runner-up effort is the second of his summer, having finished second to Zane Lambert (Ponoka, Alberta) in Wanham, Alberta in June.

The 25-year-old, double entered at the event, also finished fifth overall. In Round 1 he also lasted the full 8 aboard Mighty Moe (Thompson Rodeo Co.) for 83 points, before bucking off Ulterra’s Teal Steel (Wild Hoggs) in the short go.

Byrne’s fifth place finish earned him an additional $621.18 and 10 points towards the world standings.

After winning the Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour stop in Salinas, California Wednesday night, Lachlan Richardson (Gresford, NSW, Australia) returned to Canadian competition finishing third.

Richardson rode Just A Crackin (Outlaw Buckers Rodeo Corp.) for 84 points in Round 1, but bucked off bull of the night Tyko Checkered Flags (Wild Hoggs) in the championship round. 

The 24-year-old earned $2,107.57 and 20 world points.

Rosendo Ramirez (Hidalgo, Mexico) finished fourth after riding Heaven Sent (Thompson Rodeo Co.) for 83.5 points in Round 1. He earned $1,257.15 and 15 world points for his showing.

PBR Canada’s Touring Pro Division now travels to Manor, Saskatchewan for the Manor Fun Daze PBR on July 22 at 6:30pm.
