WHITECOURT, Alberta – As the only rider to go a perfect 2-for-2, Jake Gardner (Dawson Creek, British Columbia) won the Veteran Oilfield PBR Showdown in Whitecourt, Alberta Friday night, the 20th PBR Canada Touring Pro Division event of the season.

Gardner began the event strong, winning Round 1 with an 85-point trip aboard Border King (Foley Bucking Bulls). The British Columbia-native then matched his first score in the championship round, again receiving the top marks, after making the 8 on Willy Wonka (Girletz Rodeo Stock).

For his work he left the Scott Safety Centre with $3,802.05, 335 Canadian and 60 world points. After beginning the event ranked No. 23 in the national standings, he rose 10 spots, now No. 13.

Logan Biever (Claresholm, Alberta) finished second to earn $2,570.40, 180 Canadian and 30 world points.

After he was unable to record a qualified ride in the first round, he roared back in the championship round, tying for the win with an 85-point ride on Dylan's Devil (Wild Hoggs Bucking Bulls).

Ahead of his return to the elite 25th PBR: Unleash The Beast, Lonnie West (Cadogan, Alberta) finished third, his seventh Top-5 effort of the season.

The 22-year-old’s finish was back by his 84-point trip on Cuckoo King (Girletz Rodeo Stock) in Round 1. The bronze finish netted him $1,606.5, 135 Canadian and 20 world points.

A double entry, Cody Coverchuk (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan) finished fourth and seventh, collectively earning $1,349.46, 145 Canadian and 15 world points.

Much like Biever, Coverchuk’s fourth place finish came via a Championship Round ride, covering Big Bear Energy Gretzky (Outlaw Buckers Rodeo Corp.) for 83 points. His seventh place effort was backed by an 80-point ride on Jitter Bug (Girletz Rodeo Stock) in Round 1.

The finishes, marking his 14th Top-5 and 17th Top-10 efforts of the season, allowed the 24-year-old, currently No. 2 in the national standings, to gain ground on No. 1 Brock Radford (De Winton, Alberta). He now trails the top spot by 50.84 points.

Australia’s Lachlan Slade and rookie Nick Tetz (Calgary, Alberta) tied for fifth after they both rode their Round 1 draw for 82 points. Slade made the 8 on Billy Big Rigger (Outlaw Buckers Rodeo Corp.), while Tetz covered El Camino (Wild Hoggs Bucking Bulls).

The PBR Canada Touring Pro Division next travels to Elnora, Alberta and the Elnora Agricultural Fairgrounds on Saturday, August 11 for the 20th Annual Elnora Brahma Rama. Action gets underway at 7:30 p.m. MT.
