At the first of four Cody Snyder Charity Bull Bustin’ Touring Pro Division events in Calgary, Alberta, Chad Hartman (Lancer, Saskatchewan) reached a career milestone. In front of an enthusiastic Tuesday night crowd, Hartman went 2-for-2 to win his first PBR (Professional Bull Riders) event, vaulting inside the Top 10 in the heated race to be crowned the 2023 Canadian Champion.

Hartman delivered his first score at Grey Eagle Resort & Casino in Round 1 when he went the distance atop Housefire (Eno Bucking Bulls) for 81.5 points.

Tied for third, the young Saskatchewan man next went head-to-head with The Remedy (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle/B2 Braithwaite Ranches) in the championship round. Matching the powerful animal athlete jump-for-jump, Hartman reached the requisite 8 for 87.5 points to cement his victory.

Leaving Calgary with 54.5 national points, Hartman surged from No. 11 to No. 7 in the Canadian standings. He is now within 106.5 points of No. 1 Nick Tetz (Calgary, Alberta).

Hometown hopeful Tetz was unable to extend his lead after going 0-for-1 at the opening Cody Snyder Charity Bull Bustin’. In Round 1, Tetz, who was recently inked to the Reserve Roster for the Arizona Ridge Riders in the PBR Teams league, was upended by Naughty Kisher (Outlaw Buckers Rodeo Corp.) in a hard-fought 6.44 seconds.

Cole Brewer (Eagleview, South Dakota) parlayed his own 2-for-2 outing into a second-place finish, collecting 44 national points.

After covering Fake News (Outlaw Buckers rodeo Corp.) for 78.5 points in Round 1, Brewer delivered the high-marked ride of the event in the championship round when he conquered Langham Kid (Two Bit Bucking Bulls) for 89 points.

In the Canadian standings, Brewer gained eight positions, rising from No. 30 to No. 22.

As the final rider to cover both of his bovine athlete opponents, Tyler Craig (Crossfield, Alberta) was third.

In the opening round, Craig tied for sixth via his 79-point score atop Batter Up (Outlaw Buckers Rodeo Cop.). He then climbed the leaderboard, securing the bronze showing, when he make the 8 atop Lil’ Hooch (Two Bit Bucking Bulls) for 86 points in the final round.

Craig earned 30 national points. He remained No. 8 in the battle to be crowned the 2023 PBR Canada Champion, and earn the accompanying $50,000 bonus, inching within 111.5 points of No. 1 Tetz.

Fourth was Blake Smith (Abbey, Saskatchewan).

While Smith converted in Round 1, delivering the top score when he rode Blue North (Two Bit Bucking Bulls) for 83.5 points, he was tossed in the championship round by Son Of A Sinner (Eno Bucking Bulls/Gaume Farms), hitting the ground in a close 6.9 seconds.

Smith garnered 23 national points and is now ranked No. 10 in the nation.

Rounding out the Top 5 in fifth was the Carolina Cowboys’ Boudreaux Campbell (Crockett, Texas).

Marking his PBR debut on Canadian soil, Campbell made a statement in Round 1 when he recorded the second-best score, marked 82.5 points atop Busta Rhymes (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle/Legend Rodeo Stock).

The 2020 PBR Rookie of the Year, however, had his hopes of victory denied in the championship round when he was bucked off by Blue Magic (Outlaw Buckers Rodeo Corp.) in 3.56 seconds.

Unranked prior to the event, Campbell is now tied for No. 34 in the nation.

In the bull pen, Langham Kid and Blue Magic tied for Bull of the Event, each marked 44 points in the championship round.
