Reigning PBR Canada Champion Nick Tetz Wins Round 1 of Cup Series Competition in Lethbridge, Alberta

LETHBRIDGE, Alta. – In front of a boisterous crowd Friday night in Lethbridge, Alberta, reigning PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada Champion Nick Tetz (Calgary, Alberta) showed up and showed out. Recording the top score of the night inside ENMAX Centre, Tetz won Round 1 of the elite Cup Series, presented by Wrangler, South Country Co-op Showdown, presented by VisitLethbridge.com.

Attempting to defend his pair of event titles earned in Lethbridge in 2022, Tetz began the second tour stop of the season strong, surging to an early event lead when he conquered Sure Shot (Skori Bucking Bulls) for 28 national points.

While Tetz failed to convert in the tour stop’s accompanying 5/5 Bucking Battle, tossed by Bustin Rhymes (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle/Legend Rodeo Stock) in 5.68 seconds, the Calgary native’s Round 1 win allowed him to surge from unranked to No. 9 in the PBR Canada standings as he chases his unprecedented second consecutive national title.

Tetz trails the top spot by 59 points.

When the dust settled Friday night inside ENMAX Centre, a new rider was ranked No. 1 in the 2023 PBR Canada Championship race – Coy Robbins (Camrose, Alberta).

Amid an eight-out ride streak, Robbins finished third in Round 1 and won the tour stop’s accompanying 5/5 Bucking Battle to collect a combined 40 national points and overtake now No. 2 Jared Parsonage (Maple Creek, Saskatchewan) for the top spot by 13 points.

Robbins first put points on the board in Round 1, covering Flick The Switch (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle/Legend Rodeo Stock) for 83.5 points.

The 2017 PBR Canada Rookie of the Year then dominated in the special round, matching Positively Bangin (Outlaw Buckers Rodeo Corp.) jump-for-jump en route to a mammoth 89.5-point score.

Parsonage was unable to defend his spot despite finishing fourth in Round 1 via his 82.5-point ride on Babamba (Vold Rodeo/Wyatt Bridge), which garnered him 16 national points.

Chad Hartman (Lancer, Saskatchewan) will begin Championship Saturday of the PBR South Country Co-op Showdown second on the event leaderboard.

The surging young gun rode Devils Dues (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle/Legend Rodeo Stock) for 85 points to collect 18 national points. After beginning the event unranked, he’s now No. 15 in Canada.

Rounding out the Top 5 in the first round in fifth was Garrett Green (Meeting Creek, Alberta).

Green rode Peaky Blinder (Kinky Buckers) for 81.5 points, netting 15 national points.

Returning to the 5/5 Bucking Battle, two additional riders recorded scores, as Brock Radford (De Winton, Alberta) rode his way to a runner-up finish and Cody Fraser (Wilmington, South Australia, Australia) was third.

Radford converted aboard Bar Star (X6 Ranch Bucking Cattle/Legend Rodeo Stock) for 85.5 points to earn 16 national points, while Fraser topped Alberta Springs (Vold Rodeo) for 83 points to collect 15 national points.

Action for the PBR South Country Co-op Showdown, presented by VisitLethbridge.com, will conclude with Round 2 and the championship round on Saturday, March 4. Action gets underway at 7 p.m. MST.
