BRANDON, Man. – We’re rolling into our next TSN-televised Canada Cup series event in Brandon. Manitoba this weekend. We’re looking forward to a bunch of great rides.
RELATED: Click here for the complete daysheet.
We're going to see some new guys that we haven't seen on this tour yet that have moved their way up in the ranks. We're going to see some new bulls that we haven't seen at the Western events that are going to make their debut for the season in Brandon. So look for a lot of action, a lot of ups and downs. Anything could happen over a two-day event.
RELATED: Game Notes – Brandon.
In Round 1, we're going to look for some great rides from Gilmar Santana, Cody Coberchuck, some young guns in Trinity Bear, Jeremy Maisonneuve, can step up to the plate and get some big scores on some really good draws. Garrett Green as well, he looked really, really great in Moose Jaw the other weekend.
We have a lot of good guys riding really good right now, so look for a great first night of action to set themselves up for day two and into that short round to try and get the win in the Keystone Province.
Below are my bets for Round 1 of the event from Brandon. Let us know your thoughts and your picks for the Cup Series event by tagging @PBRCanada on X.
Tickets are still available and can can be purchased at the Assiniboine Credit Union Place Box Office and online at Ticketmaster.ca.
Dakota Buttar vs. Patiently Waiting
Dakota's looking as solid as ever, same as ever. It doesn't matter which way they go, into his hand, away from his hand. Dakota Butter can, can ride them. His style fits most every bull. When he wants to win, there's nobody that can beat him and look for the same thing right here with Patiently Waiting. Good bull from the Skori firm. Guys love this bull. Should be right in the door to the right, up and down, kicking and spinning. Good bull to get that 85-86-point score on to set himself up great for the rest of the weekend.
Francisco Costa vs. Joker On A Jack
This is a rematch for Francisco. I haven't seen him much this year. I think he just came back into Canada as far as I know. The first event that I've seen him at up here was Moose Jaw last weekend and he looked great, looked solid, into his hand, same as ever. This guy is strong. When he shows up, he comes to win and this is a rematch that I think is going to fit him really well. It's a black and white paint. I've seen him a few times. He's a young bull coming into his own, but looks like one that the guys would love to get on. Right in the gate to the left. A lot of action to him, kind of popping and spinning. I think this bull's going to mature and get a lot better as he goes. But right now, I think Francisco is going to eat him up for an 85-86-point score as well.
Aaron Roy vs. World Wide
Another rematch in the pen. Aaron rode this bull in Red Deer a few short weeks ago, and it was a really good ride. He was a little bit of a lower score, I thought he could have been a few more points, and I think that’s what's going to happen here this weekend. This bull really had some action to him, really made Aaron work for it, and we're going to do the exact same thing in Brandon, close to home for Aaron. He's stuck it on him and look for him to do it again. He's the wily veteran that we've talked about for years now, and everybody's wondering when that retirement's coming, and, and you just see this guy keep standing up and standing out. He went to Marwayne and rode some of the best bulls in Canada. Not looking to slow down one bit, and look for that same thing here when he rolls into Brandon. I'm thinking 86-87 points. Could be the long run win here for Aaron.
Stefan Tonita vs. Hammer Time
Stefan’s really having a breakout year this season. I've got to watch Stefan since he was about 8-9 years old getting on at our house in the practice pen, going through the CCA divisions, going through the amateur divisions, working his way up into the pros., He's a guy when his mind's right, when his mind's in the game, you can't beat him, and he's proved that at all levels, and he's starting to prove it at the PBR Canada level. He's made some of the better rides that we've seen, won the 5/5 Bucking Battle in Lethbridge, Alberta, stuck it on a great bull in Moose Jaw and was about half a second away from being the high score in Moose Jaw in the short round as well. Look for this to be a breakout year for Stefan. Look for him to keep his head down and keep doing what he's doing and focus on himself and riding, and you're going to see success for this kid. Top 10, possibly Canadian Championship in his realm. And the bull that he's got, Hammer Time, a big high-horn bull from the Skori firm, could go either way, but should be around to the right. Lots of timing. One that the guys like to get on. Look for him to get an 84-85-point score to set himself up solid for the weekend.
Nick Tetz vs. Pay Day
How can you not take Tetz in your picks when you're picking at these Cup events? He's proved it over and over again. He's here to win Canadian Championships. He's done that over and over, and he wants to add another one to his list. He's had a great start to the season, the one that they're chasing, and for good reason. This kid rides, and means it, and his Team Series abilities down in the U.S, and all across the country, he's not a one dimensional rider, he's got all the tools to be a true Champion and look for that exact same situation here. He's rode this bull before for a great score. Big black, white-faced bull from the Skori firm. Should be out of the left, around to the left, really blowing, really bucking. One of the better bulls out in this round, in my opinion. Could be a round win here, 87-88 point score for Nick.
