KINSELLA, Atla. – Cody Coverchuk (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan) continued to ride supreme Wednesday night in Kinsella, Alberta, winning his PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada best fifth Touring Pro Division event of the season, victorious at the Kinsella Gravel Dome Bullarama.

As competition got underway in Round 1, Coverchuk stumbled, tossed by Wicked Water (Two Bit Bucking Bulls) in 4.09 seconds.

The reserved Saskatchewan man, however, was quick to rebound. In Round 2, he regained his winning form, covering Langham Kid (Two Bit Bucking Bulls) for an event-best 87.5 points.

Not only did the score earn the two-time PBR Canada Champion his seventh round win of the season, but it also cemented him the overall victory.

Coverchuk left the Kinsella Fair Grounds with a crucial 27 national points. He furthered his stronghold on the No. 1 rank in the race for the 2024 PBR Canada Championship, and accompanying $100,000 bonus, now 264.5 points ahead of No. 2 Nick Tetz (Calgary, Alberta).

Should Coverchuk win the 2024 title, he would make history, tying three-time PBR Canada Champion Aaron Roy (Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan) for most national championships won by one rider in history.

Roy, however, is seeking even rarer air, in the hunt for his unprecedented fourth national title. The veteran rider inched closer to that achievement in Kinsella by finishing second to earn 19 national points.

After being shutout in the opening round, bucked off by Brown Budget (Wilson Rodeo) in 5.28 seconds, Roy quickly reset in Round 2, besting Wild Feathers (Big Stone Rodeo Co.) for 84 points.

Roy remained No. 14 in the national standings. He now trails No. 1 Coverchuk by 763 points.

While Coverchuk grew his lead over No. 2 Tetz, the Calgarian prevented the margin from growing larger by delivering a third-place finish at his home province event.

Tetz, who rides for the Arizona Ridge Riders in the separate PBR Teams league, dominated Round 1, delivering the top score when he reached the requisite 8 atop Here and Now (Thompson Rodeo Livestock) for 83.5 points.

The 2022 PBR Canada Champion, however, fell short of the victory when he was sent airborne by To The Point (Vold Rodeo/Jake Wilson) in 3.16 seconds in the final round.

Much like Coverchuk and Roy, Tetz is chasing history of his own this season. Should he win the title, he would become just the fourth multi-time PBR Canada Champion.

Fourth was Chanse Switzer (Hazenmore, Saskatchewan).

Switzer rode Fingers (Big Stone Rodeo Co.) for 83 points in Round 2, garnering 14 national points.

He rose from No. 10 to No. 8 in Canada, inching within 683.67 points of the top spot.

Rounding out the Top 5 in fifth was the Texas Rattlers’ Donnie Rutherfurd (Mount Isa, Queensland, Australia).

Rutherfurd earned 14 Canadian points for his 81.5-point ride on House Fire (Eno Bucking Bulls) in Round 1.

Attempting to become the first-ever Australian PBR Canada Champion, Rutherfurd climbed from No. 25 to No. 21 in the national standings.

In the bull pen, Langham Kid, Whiskey Moon (Skori Bucking Bulls) and To The Point tied for the Bull of the Event honor, each posting matching 43-point scores in Round 2.

Langham Kid earned the top score for his trip with Coverchuk, Whiskey Moon for his 2.81 seconds of work against Cody Fraser (Wilmington, South Australia, Australia), and To The Point for his outing with Tetz.

The 2024 PBR Canada seasons continues Saturday, July 13 in Diamond City, Alberta. Action for the Touring Pro Division’s Craig Sosick Memorial PBR, presented by Dennis' Dirtworx, at the Gait n Rein Equestrian Center gets underway at 7:00pm MT.
