CLUNY, Alta. – Chasing his first PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada Championship this November, Ashton Sahli (Red Deer, Alberta) reclaimed his winning form on Friday night in Cluny, Alberta. Going a perfect 2-for-2, Sahli won his first Touring Pro Division event of the 2024 season, victorious at the Cluny Lions Charity PBR at Coulee Creek Farms.

Sahli was first tasked with East Bound And Down (Two Bit Bucking Bulls) in Round 1. Sahli made the requisite 8 atop the animal athlete, marked 70 points, however, was awarded a re-ride. In a business decision, Sahli elected to keep the score, a choice which proved dividends.

Positioned third on the event leaderboard, Sahli then went head-to-head with Chili Womp (Two Bit Bucking Bulls) in the second round. Bursting from the chutes, Sahli remained in perfect time with the bovine athlete, delivering his second qualified ride in as many attempts. Awarded a round-best 84.5 points, the score cemented the event win for Sahli.

The golden finish garnered Sahli a crucial 50 Canadian points in the race to be crowned the 2024 PBR Canada Champion and earn the accompanying $100,000 bonus. Sahli climbed from No. 7 to No. 6 in the national standings, inching within 527 points of No. 1 Cody Coverchuk (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan).

Coverchuk extended his lead atop the national standings by finishing second at Coulee Creek Farms as the only other rider to go a perfect 2-for-2.

After besting Twisted Mister (Kinky Buckers) for 64 points in Round 1, Coverchuk dominated High Voltage (Wilson Rodeo) for 84 points in the second round.

Coverchuk earned 36 national points, increasing his lead over No. 2 Nick Tetz (Calgary, Alberta) to 372 national points. Tetz, who rides for the Arizona Ridge Riders in the separate PBR Teams league, was not in competition in Cluny.

Stefan Tonita (Saskatoon, Saskatchewan) parlayed a Round 1-winning, event-best, 85-point ride on Monday Merle (Kinky Buckers) into a third-place finish.

Collecting 26 national points, Tonita rose from No. 29 to No. 22 in Canada.

As the only other rider to convert, Tyler Craig (Crossfield, Alberta) was fourth.

The 2023 PBR Canada National Finals event winner earned 20 national points via his 84.5-point ride aboard Tombstone (Flying High Rodeo Co.) in Round 1.

Craig rose two spots in the nation, rising from No. 12 to No. 10. He is now within 598.84 points of No. 1 Coverchuk.

In the bull pen, Nobody (Eno Bucking Bulls) bucked a cut above the rest, crowed the Bull of the Event. Out in Round 2, Nobody posted a head-turning 45-point bull score when he upended Craig in a swift 3.22 seconds.

The 2024 PBR Canada seasons continues Saturday, June 29 in Ponoka, Alberta. Action for the Touring Pro Division’s Wild West PBR at the Ponoka Stampede Grounds gets underway at 8:00pm MDT.
