Just a handful of events remain for riders to earn crucial points to qualify for the 2024 PBR Canada National Finals in Edmonton, Alberta, at Rogers Place Nov. 8-9.

And that path to the National Finals now turns to Grande Prairie, Alberta, as the Cup Series returns to Bonnetts Energy Centre on Sept. 27-28.

Grande Prairie is always on everyone’s minds, always a great event. We look for it to be no different this year.

These are some of the matchups that stand out to me for Round 1 of the event from Grande Prairie. Some honorable mentions are Lonnie West, Tyler Craig, they should get scores, Cody Coverchuk coming back, we’ll see how that groin is for him.

Ashton Sahli vs. Patiently Waiting

Great matchup for Ashton here on a young bull from the Skori firm. Ashton has been one of the hottest riders on Canadian soil the last few months, with a big 89.5-point ride in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. He’s looking to keep that momentum going into Grande Prairie. Should be right in the gate to the right, kicking and spinning. One that should fit Ashton’s style really well. Could be a possible round win here, 86-87-point score.

Jared Parsonage vs. Busta Rhymes

Jared Parsonage has been staying up in Canada this season, and has been dominating at the events that he’s been going to. Look for him to do the exact same thing here, stay on his bulls and possibly take the win and move himself up even further in the race for the Canadian Championship. Busta Rhyme is the bull that he’s got in Round 1. A flat horned bull from the X6 Ranch. He’ll spin either way, but has lots of timing, the guys get along with him. Look for an 85-86-point ride for Jared to kickoff his weekend.

Nick Tetz vs. Night Stalker

Nick Tetz is back to the old Nick that we know. He went back down and has been having some success at the Teams events. Look for him to keep that momentum rolling into the Canada Cup events to finish off his season and try to vie for another Canadian Championship. The bull night stalker should be right in the gate to the right. This bull really bucks, he’s got some suck back to him, you’ve got to do things right to stay on and get the whistle. But look for Nick to do just that, sit there nice and square, ride him all day. A possible round win, we could see an 88 here.

Dawson Shannon vs. Teeka

Teeka is a great bull from Nansen Vold. Big, black, horned bull, kind of a scary looking, big sucker, but one that all the guys want to get on, one that you want to tie your rope to every time. He’ll be right in the gate to the left or go out a couple of jumps and then he’ll be around to the right. Either way it goes, I think it should be in Dawson’s favor. He has been riding really well as of late, he could make a big push to get into the Finals. This is a good chance for him to do that. Look for an 85-point score to set Dawson up for a solid weekend, and a solid second half of the season.
