Saskatchewan’s Tanner Byrne Wins in Nipawin

NIPAWIN, Saskatchewan – In his first Canadian event of the year, Saskatchewan’s own Tanner Byrne (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan) won the Touring Pro Division’s Nipawin Rona PBR after a flawless, 2-for-2 performance.  

The 25-year-old began the night with an 83-point effort on Plenty Cool (Rafter 8). In the Championship Round he cover Venom (Vold Rodeo) for 86.5 points to tie for the round win and claim the event title.

For his efforts he earned $3,160.94 in addition to 260 Canadian and 60 world points. After beginning the event ranked No. 23 in the world, he is now No. 21. The Saskatchewan native also cracked the Top 10 in the PBR Canada national standings.

Second place went to Cody Coverchuk (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan). He rode Jersey Lick (Vold Rodeo) for 82 points in Round 1 before making the 8 aboard Wally (Wild Hoggs Bucking Bulls) for 86.5 in the final round.

His perfect performance netted him $2,417.19, 180 Canadian and 30 world points. Coverchuk is now No. 3 in the Canadian standings.

In his third event back since undergoing reconstructive shoulder surgery at the conclusion of the 2017 season, Matt Triplett (Columbia Falls, Montana) finished third to win $1,275.01, 120 Canadian and 20 world points.

A staple on the elite 25th PBR: Unleash The Beast, Triplett was 81.5 points on Booster Juice (Cody Strandquist Bucking Bulls) in Round 1, and 83 points on Smiling Bob (Wild Hoggs Bucking Bulls).

Extending his lead atop the Canadian standings, Brock Radford (De Winton, Alberta) was fourth. The 22-year-old logged matching 82-point trips on BFF (Vold Rodeo) and Tax Evasion (Wild Hoggs Bucking Bulls) for his fifth Top-5 effort of the Canadian season.

Earning $743.75 and 15 world points, Radford is now No. 39 in the world standings.

Rounding out the Top 5, and the last rider to go flawless in Nipawin, Stetson Lawrence (Williston, North Dakota) earn $765, 50 Canadian and 10 world points.

The 2014 PBR Canada Champion first rode Solid 3 (Wild Hoggs Bucking Bulls) for 78 points in Round 1. In the Championship Round he continued his perfect event making the 8 on Rockstar Wishes (Wild Hoggs Bucking Bulls / D&L Edge) for 84 points.

While the Touring Pro Division next travels to Swift Current, Saskatchewan on May 26, the Monster Energy Tour resumes its 2018 campaign on May 12 with its second stop of the season in Ottawa, Ontario.
