COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Propelled by the raucous Texas crowd at Reed Arena, Albertan Logan Biever (Claresholm, Alberta) was electric at the first-ever PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour event in College Station, delivering a flawless 3-for-3 performance to finish a career-best second at the expansion series’ Aggieland Classic.
Biever got off to a hot start on Friday evening, snapping a 10-out buckoff streak across all levels of competition when he tied for fourth in Round 1 compliments of an 86-point score aboard Mic Drop (UTC/Sellers Bucking Bulls).
The 23-year-old then climbed the event leaderboard when Championship Saturday got underway, making the 8 aboard Texas Ranger (Cannon Cattle Co.) for 82.5 points in Round 2.
Seeking his first qualified ride of the 2021 PBR Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour season in the championship round, Biever’s seemingly unstoppable form remained on display as the tour stop came to a climactic end.
Matching Rip (3J Ranch) jump-for-jump, Biever once again reached the requisite 8, punctuating his perfect performance with an 87.5-point score.
While the flawless finish marked Biever’s first event since July 2020 when he covered all of his draws, he fell just short of his first victory on the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour, bested by event winner Paulo Ferreira Lima (Bezerros, Brazil) by 2.5 points.
For his efforts, Biever earned 35.5 world points, catapulting him 31 positions in the world standings as he rose from No. 77 to No. 46. Biever, who is attempting to qualify for his career-first PBR World Finals in 2021, now trails the Top 30 and a berth to the elite Unleash The Beast by 38.17 points.
Fellow Canadian Jake Gardner (Fort St. John, British Columbia) also delivered a statement performance in the Lone Star State, tying for ninth to earn 2 world points.
Despite bucking off in Round 1, the 24-year-old’s 6.17-second effort aboard Speck (JQH Bucking Bulls-Skip & Elaine Jones) was enough to punch his ticket to Round 2.
Capitalizing on his second chance, Gardner rose to the occasion in Round 2, covering Buddy’s Pet (Rockin R/Jim & Shannon Barr) for 87 points, marks that tied for the third-best score of the round.
Gardner’s event, however, came to a less than ideal end, dispatched by Dirty Blonde (Richardson Land & Cattle Co.) in 3.63 seconds in the championship round.
After beginning the event ranked No. 101 in the world, Gardner gained 11 positions compliments of the Top-10 effort. The British Columbia-native is now ranked No. 90 in the world.
Wyatt Gleeson (Sundre, Alberta) and Tanner Eno (Coronation, Alberta) also rode at the Aggieland Classic, however failed to find success.
Marking his first appearance on the Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour since 2019, Gleeson came down in a heartbreaking 7.22 seconds in Round 1 aboard Chopsaw (Lightning Livestock, Inc.), only to be bucked off by Slamma Jamma (H&H Bucking Bulls) in 3.27 seconds in Round 2.
For Eno, his event came to an abrupt end after he was dispatched by Sin City (Halpain Bucking Bulls) in 3.24 seconds in Round 1.
Atop the event leaderboard, four-time PBR World Finals qualifier Lima parlayed his own 3-for-3 showing at the Aggieland Classic into his first event victory of the 2021 season.
Locked in an event-long battle with runner-up Biever, Lima split the fourth-place finish in Round 1 with the Canuck when he recorded a matching 86-point score aboard Slim Shady (Rio Vista Rodeo & Equipment).
Lima then climbed the event standings in Round 2 when he went the distance atop City Slicker (Rafter JML Cattle/Lewallen) for 86 points.
The 33-year-old then clinched the event victory in the championship round when he covered Breaking Records (H&H Bucking Bulls) for 86.5 points.
Earning 35.5 world points, Lima gained significant ground in the world standings, rising from No. 62 to No. 37. Eager to return to the elite Unleash The Beast, Lima now trails the Top 30 and a berth to the premier series by 22.67 points.
Third was Texas’ own Lane Nobles (China Spring, Texas), netting 16.5 world points.
First riding Tupac (Dennis Davis Bucking Bulls/Just for Kicks) for 85.5 points in Round 1, Nobles surged to the event lead when he tied for the Round 2 victory courtesy of an 89-point ride atop Tannerite (Lightning Livestock, Inc.).
Nobles, however, fell short of his first PBR Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour victory when he was bucked off by Lockdown (Dennis Davis Bucking Bulls/Just for Kicks) in 2.72 seconds the final round.
The 29-year-old is now ranked No. 61 in the world, rising 47 positions after beginning the event ranked No. 108.
Going 2-for-3 to earn 11.5 world points, Clayon Sellars (Fruitland Park, Florida) was fourth.
The Floridian notched his qualified rides aboard Painted Demon (Halpain Bucking Bulls) for 84 points in Round 1, and Lil Willard (Richardson Land & Cattle Co.) for 89 points in Round 2.
Sellars’ Top-5 finish gained him nine positions in the world standings, climbing from No. 65 to No. 56. He now trails the Top 30 and a position on the elite tour by 49 points.
Rounding out the Top 5 in fifth was Luis Blanco (Iacanga, Brazil).
The veteran contender bounced back from a 3.76-second buckoff aboard Church Bells (Team Alaska) in Round 1, to be perfect on Championship Saturday. First riding Black Candy (Fenzel Bucking Bulls) for 84.5 points in Round 2, Blanco topped the championship round when he covered Stardust (Lightning Livestock, Inc.) for 88 points.
Blanco earned 11 world points, propelling him from No. 55 to No. 48 in the 2021 PBR world standings.
In the bull pen, A-Team (Cannon Cattle Co.) led the powerful contingent of bovine athletes, registering the top bull score of the two-day event. Delivering the head-turning 45.5-point score in Round 1, A-Team registered the marks compliments of his 1.81-second buckoff of Tyler Werner (Houston, Texas).
The PBR Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour’s Aggieland Classic was also a stop for the Million Dollar Bull Team Challenge’s 2021 season. 3J Ranch took home first place on the second night of action, scoring 276.5 points across three outs. Sellers Bucking Bulls/UTC was second with 275.85 points, and Lightning Livestock Inc. third, turning in 275.5 points.
