Brock Radford Second in Round 1 of PBR Touring Pro Division Event in Deadwood, South Dakota

DEADWOOD, S.D. – Travelling stateside to begin his 2021 season, and seeking his third career qualification to the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) World Finals, Brock Radford (De Winton, Alberta) found his groove Friday evening, finishing second in Round 1 of the annual the Touring Pro Division event in Deadwood, South Dakota.

Joined in the draw by five fellow Canucks, Lonnie West (Cadogan, Alberta) and Riley Gagnon (Innisfail, Alberta) also found success, finishing inside the Top 5 for the opening round of the Do Deadwood presents the Deadwood PBR.

Radford registered his silver-finish in Round 1 after going the distance aboard Milk Dud (Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) for 85.5 points.

When the Touring Pro Division event in the Mount Rushmore State continues on Saturday evening, Radford will look to overtake Coulter for the top position on the event leaderboard when he attempts Humberto (Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) in Round 2.

Coulter has drawn Cheating Heart (Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) for his second animal athlete opponent.

West finished fourth in Round 1, covering Element 79 (Heald Pro Bulls/Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) for 82 points. He’ll attempt to remain perfect in the second round when he climbs aboard Taco Cat (WSM Auctioneers/Rex Linn/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger).

Rounding out the Top 5 in fifth was surging young gun Gagnon.

The Albertan covered Red Beard (Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) for 81 points, and will face Pink Tornado (Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) in Round 2 Saturday evening.

Radford, West and Gagnon were joined by fellow Canadians Logan Biever (Claresholm, Alberta), Coy Robbins (Camrose, Alberta) and Bryce West (Cadogan, Alberta), however all three failed to make the whistle.

Biever was bucked off by Pillow Drift (Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) in 6.7 seconds, 2017 PBR Canada Rookie of the Year Robbins was dispatched by Ol’ Brindle (Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) in 3 seconds, and Bryce West was brought down by Boone (Triplett Bucking Bulls) in 2.46 seconds.

Seeking their first qualified ride of the event in Round 2, Biever will attempt Far West (Triplett Bucking Bulls) and Bryce West will climb aboard Animal House (Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger). Robbins will not compete in Round 2 after sustaining a concussion in his trip with Ol' Brindle. 

Elsewhere on the event leaderboard, Joe Hostetler (Homer City, Pennsylvania) was third. He rode Ink Spot (Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) for 83.5 points, and Big Secret (Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) awaits him in Round 2.

Weston Hartman (Mandan, North Dakota), Ross Freeman (Kountze, Texas) and Thor Hoefer II (Priest River, Idaho) were the remaining riders to reach the 8 in Round 1 from Deadwood.

Hartman rode Birthday Cake (Kathy Boone/Joe Beaver/Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) for 78.5 points to finish sixth, Freeman covered Loaded Situation (Lacey Scott/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) for 76 points to finish seventh, and Hoefer made the whistle on Reggae Cowboy (Triplett Bucking Bulls) for 63 points to conclude the evening eighth.

The trio will face Total Package (Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger), Little Lover Boy (Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger) and Kyno (Elmer Blackbird/Clay Struve/Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger), respectively, in Round 2.

The Do Deadwood presents the Deadwood PBR will continue from Deadwood Events Complex on Saturday, June 12 at 7:00 p.m. MDT.
