LETHBRIDGE, Alberta – For the first time in league history, PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Canada’s elite Monster Energy Tour will visit the ENMAX Centre in Lethbridge, Alberta, holding the two-day Bridge City Chrysler/LA Towing PBR Challenge on March 1-2, 2019.
The Monster Energy Tour regularly features Canada’s best riders alongside some of the league’s top international athletes, squaring off against the rankest bucking bulls from across the nation. Fans will witness exhilarating 8-second rides and wrecks throughout the action-packed event as the PBR’s courageous bull-riding athletes face off against their 2,000-pound opponents.
Notably, the 2019 Monster Energy Tour will feature the most events in the series’ four-year history. After holding five events in 2017, the tour expanded to nine stops this season, with 11 on the docket for 2019.
The city’s addition to the premier series’ slate events comes after a several-year stretch of Lethbridge hosting successful Touring Pro Division stops. In 2017 the then reigning CPRA Champion Jordan Hansen (Okotoks, Alberta) delivered a 2-for-2 performance to capture the win, while Garret Green (Meeting Creek, Alberta) rode to the win both in 2018 and 2016.
With this year’s event part of the cross-Canada, nationally-televised Monster Energy Tour, riders will be vying for an increased purse and amount of world points in an effort to earn a berth onto the elite PBR: Unleash The Beast.
Simultaneously, riders will be competing for points towards the Canadian national standings to be crowned the 2019 PBR Canada Champion come season’s end.
The event will come on the heels of yet another fiercely contended title race on the Canadian tours. While Lachlan Richardson (Gresford, New South Wales, Australia) currently sits atop the leaderboard, No. 2 Brock Radford (De Winton, Alberta) and No. 3 Cody Coverchuk (Meadow Lake, Saskatchewan), both anticipated to compete in Lethbridge, are within 140 points of the top spot.
Also within striking distance of claiming the title, and slated to compete inside the ENMAX CENRE in 2019, are young gun Lonnie West (Cadogan, Alberta), two-time and reigning PBR Canada Champion Zane Lambert (Ponoka, Alberta) and three-time Canadian Champion Aaron Roy (Yellow Grass, Saskatchewan).
Tickets for the two-day event go on sale Friday, October19 at 10 a.m. MT and start at $30. Tickets can be purchased online at www.enmaxcentre.ca, and by phone at (403) 329-7328.
The 2019 slate of events marks the fourth season for the Monster Energy Tour as a unified competitive series traveling across the country. The Lethbridge stop will be just one of three two-day events, joined by Calgary, Alberta and the 2019 Canadian Finals in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, and the second stop on the 2019 Monster Energy Tour schedule, following the season opener on January 26 in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
